I spoke too soon, Evan is not entirely back to normal... but there are no sleep patterns to talk about. He will wake up once one night, three times the next, once, twice, sleep through the night, three, three, twice, once, once... you get idea. We never know what kind of night we're going to get, there's no way to tell. Needless to say I'm tired, and I've been neglecting writing updates for you.
And now my brother Carlos and his family are visiting for a week. On top of a 6 month old, we have a 5 year old girl and 2 year old boy, which makes for some fun times, but not many naps. And Evan's sleep schedule is all over the place, so there you have it.
So, this is a post with a promise. I promise I will blog next week! I could write more now, but I feel it may be a better use of my time to try to enjoy the current peace and quiet, and maybe get a 10 minute nap (I'm being optimistic here!)
But I will blog about our now 6 month old baby! Evan turned 6 months old yesterday and he has a few tricks up his sleeve, so I'll tell you about that. And I'll show you how I look 6 months postpartum.
I promise. ::cross my heart and all::

Back to normal
It's been 3 nights in a row of waking up only once per night. Evan slept 12 hours last night. Aaah, the bliss!
My best guess as to what was going on is teething. Add a messed up schedule, and I'm not surprised our sleep deprivation lasted so long.
I was getting worried that maybe he was hungry, but now I know that was not the case. I really need to stop listening to others and just go with my gut. Nobody knows my baby like I do, nobody spends as much time with him. Sometimes I get lost in the noise, but my mommy instinct is really the one I should pay closest attention to.
Now he's taking the first nap of the day, and later we'll go see his friends from baby class. Maybe I'll try to take a nap now!

11:30, 12:30, 2:30, 5 am
Oh my goodness, I'm so tired today. It was a long, long night, I'm dying for a nap and it's only 9 am.
I don't really know what's going on at this point, all I know is that this is crazy! Evan is waking up more now that he did when he was 2 weeks old! I don't know if this is because he's teething, or because he was sick, or his schedule's messed up, or he's growing, or more hungry, or just a pain in the rump. It's been over two weeks of this now, and I just need it to be over, whatever it is.
And in a very real way this is worse than when he was 2 weeks old. Yes, it took longer to put him back to sleep back then, but he's so active now, there's no down time, he must be entertained. And if not entertained, I have to at least stay close and alert. Sleep deprivation doesn't help either. And he naps less now.
And can I just say I hate the Jeans Hug.gies commercials? I know that was out of nowhere, but I was just watching it and it's annoying.
Back to play with the Bug. I hope he gets tired soon so I can at least take a shower, because we have to go into town. Sigh...

5 months old
-Evan is 26.5 inches and 18 pounds. He's as big or bigger than the 8 and 9 month old babies at his baby class!
- Evan pays lots of attention to the dogs now. He watches their every move with great interest, like he only discovered they move around. (The dogs are not allowed near him though)
- He loves playing on the floor and passing things between his hands. He also loves grabbing things with both his hands and trying them on as a hat.
- He makes all sorts of noises with his tongue, which of course include fart noises. He's quite the expert now.
- He has started to roll over more often. He's still surprised when he does it, but he's getting better at it.
- He's so close to sitting up on his own! A couple of weeks at most.
- If he's playing with a toy and you take it away, he'll let you know that's not ok with him.
- Most of all he seems to really enjoy life. Always laughing, always smiling. And always enjoys a good foot.
Cough cough cough
We're sick :(
Evan and I have a scratchy throats and are coughing away. It's not too bad, but it's the kind of cold that advances very slowly, so it's likely to last a while. And it gets uncomfortable little by little, it's a bit of a pain, really.
Also, he has been waking up 3 times a night. He hadn't done that since he was two weeks old! And he won't go back to sleep unless I nurse him; he cries and screams until I do. I tried to avoid it when he woke up at 11 pm, but he was not having it. So he has been eating at 8 pm, 11-11:30 pm, 3 am and 5-6 am. That's so far from our usual schedule, it's exhausting on its own. Add that I'm not feeling too hot either, and it's even less fun. But we're not doing to bad, and for that I'm grateful.
And Evan still looks very happy and playful. So far, not too bad. Just coughing. Not fun, but not terrible.
