We had our doctor's appointment today, and it went great! We heard the heartbeat, loud and strong.
We also set up the next appt for September 4th, when we'll have the big u/s, where tons of measurements of the baby are taken to make sure everything is growing accordingly. Oh, yeah, that's when (hopefully!) we'll find out if Lovebug is a boy or a girl!
That's all we know for now, but we wanted to let you know Lovebug is growing strong!!

14 weeks!
First, the pic of the day:

I don't know if you can see a difference, but I will say that my belly is rounder. It goes from hip bone to hip bone now. So the belly is growing, that's good.
I do have a couple new symptoms, that I know you're dying to learn about! So I made a quick list of current symptoms to satisfy your curiosity:
Tiredness. I don't always take a nap every day, but I could!
Nausea. I only get it in the evenings, but it bothers me to no end. I'm thankful that I'm not barfing, but it's still uncomfortable.
Constant belching. Again, mostly in the evenings, which adds to my general discomfort.
Frequent trips to the restroom. At least twice a night, and constantly during the day.
Food aversions and food cravings. Keep all tomato sauce pasta away from me, and keep the Mexican food and fried goods coming!! And ice cream!
Headaches. I've been getting them for a about a week now, especially when I stand up, but they tend to linger around no matter what. The kind of headache you get when you've been laying down for a while and stand up too quickly, that also makes you loose your balance. Completely normal, as there's more blood flowing in my system and the same amount of vessels.
Stuffy nose. Especially at night. I've been getting it for about a week. Annoying. Also a result of more blood going through the same vessels.
And a rounding belly!
See, I knew you wanted to know all about it!! Hehe.
And cause I know you're also dying to know, here's how big Lovebug is:

Your adorable little fetus is busy with thumb sucking, toe wiggling, and (not so cute but equally amazing) making urine and breathing amniotic fluid as the liver, kidneys and spleen continue to develop. Lanugo (thin, downy hair) is growing all over the body for warmth.
Anyways, tomorrow is our next doctor's appt. I'll update around noon!

Second trimester
There are a couple of methods to divide the 40 weeks of pregnancy into trimesters. One is by development, by which the 2nd trimester starts at 12 weeks. This takes into account the development of the baby, and at 12 weeks all major organs are developed. The other one is by gestation, by which 2nd trimester starts at 13 weeks 3 days. That's what you get if you divide 40 weeks by 3 (for trimesters).
In any case, today we're officially in second trimester!!
I forgot to post this on Wednesday, but better late than never! Lovebug is this big:

Your fetus is forming teeth and vocal cords... savor this, their non-functional phase. Baby is approaching normal proportions, with a head now only one third the size of the body. Intestines are in the process of moving from the umbilical cord to baby's tummy. (Much more convenient.)

A message for Grandpa Chuck
Lovebug and I are coming up with a list of places we would love to visit with you while in town in a couple of weeks. Though some include places we know you like (like IHOP), we're sure you won't be so sure about others (like a sushi place). So brace yourself. Lovebug has a funky appetite...
Love to you and Grandma Debbie.

A discovery
I went grocery shopping today, and as I was walking down the aisles, I made a discovery. I found a pattern in the foods I've been favoring lately (well, maybe two patterns), and let me tell you something: I did not see this coming.
First, I'm craving fresh, summery food. Salads and that sort of things. There's something about the temperature of the food, I definitely don't feel like eating hot food, yuck! EXCEPT for fried food. That's right, fried. That's strange, isn't it? What's with the healthy, fresh summery salad and fried food combination?
Well, here's the answer: Other than french fries (cause really, who doesn't love french fries to begin with??), the fried food I've been craving is Mexican fried food. Tacos, flautas, enchiladas (the tortillas are fried), all those delicious things! And what is anything fresh doing in the picture?? You guessed it! Everything you put ON TOP of all those foods has to be fresh: lettuce, pico de gallo, guacamole, delicious salsa.
WOW! Go figure! The Mexican gal craving Mexican food! Unheard of!!

12 weeks!
I got a little too excited with pictures today...
I've been trying to match them for 2 hours, and I think I did pretty good. So today I'll go crazy with comparisons. Why, you ask? Because I want to prove to you that there's some growth, and I'll try to convince you that maybe there's a bit of a baby bump... Though I know the odds that you'll believe me are slim, ha!
Alright, let's compare week 10 and week 12, shall we? (I even added blue lines to make the comparison easier for you!)

Exhibit A: As you can see, the bloat is gone! Ok, fine, there's a small chance that I'm still a little bloated, but the way I'm feeling tells me that the bloat is mostly a thing of the past (no need to get into details... Trust me, you don't want to know).
And here is where it gets interesting. Look at what I found:

This little gem was taken on May 16th as Josh and I were making our way to Capitol Reef NP. That means I was a little under 3 weeks pregnant. What you see in the background is the Painted Desert, in AZ. Can I say hot?? Cause it was!
And look at that!! That's my profile, just like the belly pics!! I'm even wearing the same tank!! What are the odds!!
OF COURSE I had to play with this pic as well! Let's see:

Exhibit B: Again, we have our friendly blue line, comparing week 3 and week 12. And you can see that there's growth, YES!! In the past few days I've been having lots of stretching pains, just a little pulling here and there, as things grow to make room for Lovebug. Perhaps we can see a bit of little Lovebug? A small baby bump in the making??
I'll let you be the judge of that! Do leave a comment and let me know what you think!
ONLY READ IF YOU'RE INTO MATH:
PS. If the blue line isn't working for you, I have percentages. You know I'm a scientist (or at least I used to be!) so: I'm sure you can see that all pics show a little blue line past the belly. That line (past the belly to the end) is 65% shorter in week 10 than in week 12. Also that line is 27% shorter in week 12 than in week 3.

200 days to go!
That's not bad, huh? Only 200 days until we meet little Lovebug!
I have to admit, I'm looking forward to being out of the first trimester, but this little milestone feels pretty good as well! And I *think* maaaaaaybe, we'll be able to see an actual little baby bump in next weeks belly pic! YAY!
Are you as excited as I am?

Lovebug's first gift
We received a package in the mail today from Josh's parents. There was a note inside, it says:
Josh and Lorena: We could not resist. Love. Grandparents to be.

11 weeks!
One more week! Yay!
I've had a serious food aversion to one thing only, but it was powerful. I had to walk away! It was spaghetti and meatballs. Same meatballs that I had for dinner a couple of nights before, I might add, and I couldn't stand the smell of them. I think it was a combination of the meat and the tomato sauce, it made me gag. Ugh, the mere thought of it makes me gag! But everything else is fine with me.
So far I'm only gained 4 pounds, so we're doing well. The bloat is starting to recede (as you can see in the pic, I don't look as big), which a good thing. It means soon enough we'll see the actual baby bump. Can't wait!
Here's our weekly pic:

But, how big is Lovebug? This big:
Lovebug currently enjoys a 1:1 ratio between body and head, and has skin so transparent that blood vessels show right through. But, fingers and toes are no longer webbed, and hair follicles, tooth buds and nail beds are forming -- setting up a significantly more attractive future. (from thebump.com)

The big announcement
As some of you know, we finally made the big announcement on Facebook. We stay in touch with many friends through it, so we couldn't wait to read the replies we would get.
We made the big announcement on the 3rd of July, here are the replies we got (we blacked out last names for privacy. Click on the image for a better look):

To everyone that replied, thanks for all your comments!

10 weeks!!
Finally, the moment we were waiting for. We had our second appt, and we were told there was a chance we could hear the heartbeat, though no promises. Our OBGYN said we might since I'm on the thin side, but we would have to wait and see.
We got to our appt, decided to give it try, and at first he found my pulse. It was very obvious it was me, at about 80 beats per minute, regular stuff. The we heard static as he tried to find a better spot, and then, just like that, a little drum beat, going fast: our Lovebug's heartbeat! At around 160 beats per minute, you can really tell the difference!!
Josh recorded it, and we will post it as soon as we figure out how to. In the meantime here's the latest belly pic:
Oh, yeah, Neela wanted to say hi to you all. She's excited to be a big sister!

8 weeks
For those of you wondering, I've had little symptoms. No tossing my cookies, just a bit of nausea here and there. And just being tired and hungry all the time...
Here's our 8 wks pic:
I know you wouldn't know by looking at the picture, but I feel compelled to share. Those are maternity shorts. That's right, I can't fit in my shorts anymore... (and they're REALLY comfy!! ;) )

Our little Lovebug
So, at 6 weeks we had our first OBGYN's appointment (appt from here on). We were really lucky to get an ultrasound (yay!) and take a look at our little kiddo in the making. Lets take a look at her/him first, our Lovebug's first picture:
It was VERY exciting to see the little heart beating away! Our Lovebug was very tiny! Only half a centimeter long. Eeek! S/he was measuring exactly what we expected, so things were definitely moving along nicely.

Welcome to our Blog!!
If you're here, you know we're pregnant. YAY!! This blog is meant to keep you informed and updated on our pregnancy. We will keep you posted on appointments, news and the growth of the belly!
We found out we were pregnant before turning 4 weeks. We just couldn't wait to find out, and a positive test gave us the answer we were looking for! It has been REALLY hard not to tell everyone, but we're now happy to share the news with our family and friends!
So, to get started, here's our first belly pic. We were 6 weeks along in this:
Yup, someone is saying Hello to you!!
